Eco bank Port Harcourt: Freezes accounts to stay afloat.

This was the scene at Eco bank Port Harcourt where the customers was waiting to make a cash withdrawal. The bank management made a persuasive decision to give the customers below what they want. One of the customers said he wanted to withdraw Two hundred thousand naira but they gave him One hundred thousand naira instead. Same thing with a lady who wrote A Hundred thousand naira on the withdrawal slip was given Fifty thousand naira. Same thing goes to each and every one of them. The Staffs was questioned by the angry and aggressive customers why they made such decision the bankers said it's for them to maintain the system balanced so that the cash outflows will not be higher than the cash inflows. The customers reprobated at this decision. The queue was very much that people were meant to sit on the floor and wait for their turn. This is elusive.

Dog eats new born baby in Bauchi

By Suzan Edeh

BAUCHI— There was outrage, yesterday, at Gwallameji, the Federal Polytechnic Student Village, Bauchi State when a dog was found eating a new born baby abandoned at a refuse dump.

Vanguard reports that several of such incidents have been recorded in the area with this coming less than four months after the lifeless body of a new born baby in a polythene bag was found at a refuse dump in the same area.

It was learnt that the incident attracted many people to the scene.

An eye witness, who only gave his name as Isaiah, said: “I was coming back from church when I saw many people behind a house away from ours. I became curious and went to see what was happening there.

“What I saw there was disgusting and annoying. It was someone, who dumped a new born baby at a refuse dump and a dog was found eating it (the baby).

“From the look of things and from what I heard people say, the baby was abandoned alive but was killed by the dog.

“How can someone do this to an innocent child? How can a human life be treated with such levity? It’s so bad and inhumane.”

He said some of the onlookers dug a shallow pit and buried the remains of the baby just beside the refuse site.

Contacted on phone, the traditional Chief of Gwallameji, Hassan Ibrahim, confirmed the incident, saying he was not at the scene personally to see things.

He said: “I got a call from someone informing me of the incident but I told the person that I was not around. When I called the number back, I was told that Wakilin Sarkin Gwallameji (representative of the chief of Gwallameji), Sanusi Mohammed, was already there.

“Since he was there, I continued with what I was doing knowing that he would handle everything well. As I speak with you now, I haven’t met him yet for information on the incident.”

Efforts to get comment from the Police were fruitless as several calls put through to the mobile phone of the Acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bauchi State Command, Haruna Mohammed, failed.

I will expose secrets that will sink Nigeria: Nnamdi Kalu

Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Director of Radio Biafra, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu has threatened that he would expose secrets that are capable of sinking Nigeria. Kanu gave the threat at his resumed trial on Tuesday.
In the Tuesday’s ruling, trial Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja granted the Federal Government the nod to shield identities of witnesses billed to testify against Nnamdi Kanu.
Justice Nyako who held that names of all the prosecution witnesses who are mostly security operatives, would not be disclosed in any record of the court proceedings also said that the witnesses would be allowed to testify against the defendants behind a screen that would be provided by the court.
Justice Nyako however stressed that both the defendants and their counsel would be allowed to see the witnesses who she said would enter and exit the courtroom through a special door.
However, Kanu immediately rejected the court ruling, insisting that it was against the tenets of Justice and fair hearing.
“I won’t stand this travesty of Justice. Buhari spoke in public, he accused me in public. I must also be allowed to stand my trial in public”, Kanu bellowed from the dock.
“This is nonsense! I will give testimony before this court! By the time I finish, there will be no Nigeria. This is no Sharia court. It is a court that operates under the common law.
“There will be no screening of witnesses, no fake identities or fake addresses. I cannot be tried in secret. No! Nnamdi Kanu cannot be jailed in secret! They are mad. Why must I be tried in secrecy by a government that does not obey court orders.
“They are killing my people in public, after killing my people they want to try me in private? That person is mad. I won’t allow it. “, Kanu fumed.
The IPOB leader is facing an11-count charge alongside three other pro-Biafra agitators, Mr. Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi.
Charges against the accused persons border on reasonable felony and their alleged involvement in acts of terrorism.
The defendants had earlier alleged plot by the Federal Government to import foreigners to testify against them.

Female suicide bombers kill 31 in Nigeria market

Twin bombings killed at least 31 people at a market in Madagali, Nigeria, on Friday in an apparent suicide attack carried out by two females, a military spokesman said.

The "female bombers detonated an IED (improvised explosive device) inside a local market," according to a tweet from the National Emergency Management Agency in Nigeria.
Residents of Madagali, in northeast Nigeria's Adamawa state, said the explosions also resulted in numerous injuries.
"The military are in full control of the security situation in the area so there is no security threat," said military spokesman Maj. Badare Akintoye.
Madagali is located on the border with Borno state, the birthplace of the militant group Boko Haram, and has incurred many attacks and abductions since the military retook the area from the militants in 2015.
The attacks have prevented residents from resuming normal commercial and social activities in the area, locals said.
Local leaders have called on Nigeria's government to deploy soldiers to villages and bushes connecting the area with Sambisa Forest, where Boko Haram militants are believed to have set up camps.

4 wounded as car hits a boutique and a grocery store.

It was a cool afternoon along Okwe Road Asaba Opposite the filling station under construction. When a Lexus 330 hits a boutique and a grocery store. The driver of the car which is a lady lost control and forcefully hits the store where a woman and a young girl were seated, but eventually the young girl saw the car coming at an uncontrollable speed and they rushes out before the car hits.
In the scene was a bike man (okada) with the passenger packed closer to the boutique and unfortunately the car hits them with force giving them severe injuries. One had a big cut on his leg which he may or may not survive of, cause blood was already gushing out while the other had a cut on the arm. They were immediately rushed to Maximilian Hospital Okwe, Asaba.
On the interview with one of the victims, she told Bananakingz blog that the lady driving the car was overspeeding and that made her lose control. "Na God o, God saved me and my neighbor, we should have been in the hospital or somewhere else by now, though my neighbor had an injury on the ankle but that's minor" the lady said.
On another disclosed interview with an eyewitness said that the lady driving the car is an amateur. Report said that the lady ran away immediately she hits the boutique maybe out of fear or something, but returned to the scene with the husband minutes later.
Short after they took the casualties to the hospital report reaches us that the leg may be amputated but can still undergo surgery to make sure he gets back on his feet. "It was a terrible and a fatal accident,we pray the man will not die cause the cut was deep" said one of the eyewitnesses.
They towed the Lexus away after some road control officers came to the scene while some people helped in packing the goods and some fallen blocks and bricks making sure everything is okay.

Why is Softbank investing in the US now?

The two billionaires couldn't have looked more at ease with one another, as they announced the investment from Japan's Softbank into US start-ups.
But why is Masayoshi Son, one of Japan's most eccentric businessmen, investing in Trump's America at a time when the US is seemingly focusing less on Asia?
Here are three reasons:
Betting the farm on Sprint:
Softbank paid $22bn (£17.3bn) for a controlling stake in US telecoms firm Sprint in 2013, which was the number 3 operator at that time. But that investment has lost around $7bn of its value largely because Sprint lost ground against its competitors.
One of the ways Softbank had hoped to claw back a profit was by buying T-Mobile, Sprint's main competition in the States. But that deal took a backseat after US regulators signalled they weren't in favour.
Cosying up to the new US president by doing a deal that makes him look good would be one way to smoothe those regulatory issues in the future.
Exposure to US tech firms:
Japan isn't really the centre of innovation and technology as it once was, Marc Einstein at Frost & Sullivan tells me. He covers the sector from Tokyo, and as he put it, "Japan has really fallen behind on tech".
So being in the US and having a foothold in the sector would give Masayoshi Son access to Silicon Valley, and more importantly, what people there are thinking and doing and what the future of IoT (Internet of Things) looks like.
Billionaire buddies:
The camaraderie between the two men is hard to miss - just look at that video again if you need convincing. "They're both billionaires, they're both mavericks and they're both gamblers," says Mr Einstein.
"I can see them sitting down and having a positive discussion." According to Mr Einstein the two are likely to share a good rapport - and that means they "understand one another and speak each other's language" - which perhaps suggests both sides understand what a good deal means.
The Son Seal of credibility for Trump?
The $50bn that Masayoshi Son has bet on the new relationship with the president-elect isn't small change by any account. Creating 50,000 jobs is also no small feat to achieve.
Having said that, the $50bn is coming from a previously announced $100bn Saudi venture - that was created before the election - so some would argue this was money that was coming the US's way in any case.
But Mr Trump has rushed to claim this as his victory.
The Japanese business leader's investment will no doubt be used as evidence by the Trump team that even as it pulls out of global trade deals like the Trans Pacific Partnership, the US is open for business - and that companies like Softbank are breaking down the door to get in.

FC Porto 5-0 Leicester City

Already qualified Leicester City suffered the worst defeat by an English team in the Champions League as Porto recorded an overwhelming victory to join the Foxes in the last 16.
Leicester were already assured of progressing as Group G winners before the game and boss Claudio Ranieri made 10 changes to his starting XI.
Porto needed to win to guarantee their place in the knockout stage and made the ideal start when Andre Silva headed home.
The Portuguese side dominated throughout, with Leicester rarely making it out of their own half, and added a deserved second through Jesus Corona's stunning volley.
Yacine Brahimi then scored a brilliant third just before half-time, backheeling Maxi Pereira's cross beyond goalkeeper Ben Hamer, before Silva converted a second-half penalty following Danny Drinkwater's foul.
Diogo Jota rounded off the scoring late on, slotting home after being put through on goal.
The result took some of the shine off Leicester's previous performances in the Champions League this season, but they can now look forward to the draw for the last 16, which takes place on Monday at around 11:00 GMT.

JUST IN: Trump Is Time Magazine's 'Person of the Year'

President-elect Donald Trump has been named Time magazine's Person of the Year for 2016.

Every year, Time editors select the person — or idea — who has most influenced the news and the world.

Past recipients include President Barack Obama, President George W. Bush, Pope Francis, Pope John Paul II and Martin Luther King, Jr.

"To be on the cover of Time as Person of the Year is a tremendous honor," Trump told Matt Lauer after the reveal.

Trump did take issue with the fact that Time referred to him as "President of the Divided States of America."

"I think putting 'divided' is snarky," Trump said. "I didn’t do anything to divide."

Trump won the honor over ten other finalists, including Hillary Clinton, Vladimir Putin, Mark Zuckerberg and Beyoncé.
