Photos: 14-Year-Old Jss 3 Girl Obiamaka Ngozichukwu Raped And Killed By Lagos Area Boys For Refusing To Be Their Girlfriend

According to a source Obiamaka was at home for the holidays when she met her untimely death.
She was at home alone when some Indian Hemp smoking boys who had asked her out and she refused, scaled her family’s compound fence and gained access to their apartment in Abule Ado area of Lagos state. They raped her and left her in the pool of her own blood.
Some residents living in the area who saw the boys as they scaled the fence out of the compound, alerted the mother of the deceased who returned home from her workplace immediately.

She got home to find her 14 year old daughter with blood stains on her vagina and gasping for air. She rushed her to a hospital where she was pronounced dead.
The distraught mother, Mrs Orakwue, told friends and family members who were on a condolence visit:
“I was at work when I got a call from our neighbor that they saw some boys jumping out from the fence of our compound and that my daughter was not responding to the knock on the gate since it was locked from inside. I was worried because my daughter was the only one at home and her other siblings were on holidays at my elder brothers place in Lekki.
On getting to the house, I opened the gate with my spare key and dashed into the room only to find my daughter gasping for breath in the pool of her blood. I asked her what happened and all she could mutter was, Mummy…those boys I told you about”…,
According to Mrs Orakwue, her daughter had complained about some boys who had made advances towards her when she came back on holidays from school just recently but she rebuffed them and they swore to teach her a lesson.
“It must have been the same boys that took advantage of the fact that i and my husband went to work and gained entry into the compound through the back fence of the house where they attacked my daughter,” she said amidst tears.
The father of the deceased Mr Obinna Orakwue who could not hide his emotions lamented that enough was not being done to find out those behind the demise of his daughter

We have reported the incident to the police and they promised to apprehend the culprits but we still have not heard from them till date.”
He described his daughter as an intelligent student with a very bright future.

“She was meant to be in JSS 3 by the next academic session. We told her to join her siblings in my in-law’s house but she insisted she wanted to stay at home to help with the house chores especially since I and my wife were away at work. Now see what has happened. I leave it in the hands of God to judge”, he said.
Obiamaka Ngozichukwu Orakwue was laid to rest last Friday July 21st at the Berger Cemetery.

One of the armed robbers (pictured on the ground) was gunned down. However, reports by eyewitnesses said three people died in the attack.

Eyewitnesses were skeptical about the success of the gang in carting away money as action of policemen attached to the bank who swiftly responded by gunning down one of the gang foiled the successful operation by the robbers.

French election: Macron defeats Le Pen to become president

Centrist candidate Emmanuel Macron has decisively won the French presidential election, projected results say.
Mr Macron defeated far-right candidate Marine Le Pen by about 65.5% to 34.5% to become, at 39, the country's youngest president, the results show.
Mr Macron will also become the first president from outside the two traditional main parties since the modern republic's foundation in 1958.
He said that a new page was being turned in French history.
"I want it to be a page of hope and renewed trust," he said.
Live updates: France elects Macron
Mr Macron said he had heard "the rage, anxiety and doubt that a lot of you have expressed" and vowed to spend his five years in office "fighting the forces of division that undermine France".
He said he would "guarantee the unity of the nation and... defend and protect Europe."
Mr Macron's supporters gathered in their thousands to celebrate outside the Louvre museum in central Paris and their new president later joined them.
In his speech to the crowd, he said: "Tonight you won, France won." But he repeated a number of times that the task facing him and the country was enormous.
He said: "We have the strength, the energy and the will - and we will not give in to fear or division."
His mention of Ms Le Pen drew loud boos, and he said he would do all he could to ensure in future there would be no reason to vote for extremism.
Security remains tight in the capital and there were reports of police firing tear gas at several hundred anti-capitalist protesters near the Ménilmontant metro in the 20th arrondissement.
What has Ms Le Pen said?
In her speech, she thanked the 11 million people who had voted for her. She said the election had shown a division between "patriots and globalists" and called for the emergence of a new political force.
Ms Le Pen said her National Front party needed to renew itself and that she would start the "deep transformation of our movement", vowing to lead it into upcoming parliamentary elections.
She also said she had wished Mr Macron success in tackling the "huge challenges" facing him.
Subdued and blue: BBC's James Reynolds at Le Pen HQ
There were scattered boos as the projections were announced. A few moments of quiet, uncertain chatter followed. Then supporters gave a subdued rendition of the French national anthem. Many were carrying blue-coloured roses - Marine Le Pen's chosen symbol.
The defeat will not have come as a surprise - the fact that such a small venue was booked is an indication that the campaign suspected it would lose.
There were cheers for Marine Le Pen as she delivered her speech. During an interview afterwards, one senior party official explained to me that a new movement would now be formed - he didn't give a name for it. Once I finished the interview, he raised his glass of champagne and said "Vive la France".

Russia's Supreme Court bans Jehovah's Witnesses

Russia's Supreme Court announced Thursday that it has banned the Jehovah's Witnesses from operating in the country, ordering the religious group to close 395 of its local chapters.

The announcement came after the court accepted a request from the justice ministry that the religious organization be considered an extremist group.

The court also ordered the seizure of the group’s property.

Justice Ministry attorney Svetlana Borisova was quoted by the Interfax news agency in court Thursday as saying that the Jehovah's Witnesses "pose a threat to the rights of the citizens, public order and public security."

The Jehovah's Witnesses claim more than 170,000 adherents in Russia. The group has come under increasing pressure over the past year, including a ban on distributing literature deemed to violate Russia's anti-extremism laws. The religious group, which preaches door-to-door, rejects military service and blood transfusions.

Russian prosecutors have long cast the group as an organization that destroys families and spreads hatred, which it denies, according to Reuters.

The group said it would appeal the decision and if it is upheld, the case would be shifted to the European Court of Human Rights, the TASS news agency reported.

“We are greatly disappointed by this development and deeply concerned about how this will affect our religious activity,” Yaroslav Sivulskiy, a spokesman for Jehovah’s Witnesses in Russia, said in a statement. “We will appeal this decision, and we hope that our legal rights and protections as a peaceful religious group will be fully restored as soon as possible.”

Once the Supreme Court ruling is appealed, it will only go into effect when the appellate court announces its decision.

Crocodile eats South African hunter

DNA tests on the carcass of a crocodile shot in Zimbabwe have confirmed that it contains the remains of a missing South African hunter, an investigator has told the BBC.
Scott Van Zyl was killed last week on the banks of the Limpopo river, said Sakkie Louwrens, director of a South-African crime-fighting NGO.
He said Mr Van Zyl disappeared during a hunting safari last week.
His death is the latest in a series of fatal crocodile attacks in Zimbabwe.
Mr Louwrens told the BBC that Mr Van Zyl had gone on a hunting trip on the Zimbabwe-South Africa border with a local tracker and a pack of dogs.
He said the pair left their vehicle and went in different directions in search of crocodiles.
A search and rescue operation was launched after Mr Van Zyl's dogs returned to their camp without him.
The hunter's footprints were traced to river bank alongside his discarded rucksack. He was married, had two children and took foreign clients on hunting trips.
Mr Louwrens said staff from the Heritage Protection Group - an organisation which he heads and helps police fight crime in South Africa - informally helped the Zimbabwean authorities conduct the search.
"Permission was given for three Nile crocodiles in the area to be shot, and one of them contained Mr Van Zyl's remains," he said. "Subsequent DNA tests have proved the remains to be those of Mr Van Zyl."
At least four fatal attacks by crocodiles have been reported in Zimbabwe this year.
One conservation group meanwhile has condemned the circumstances of his "senseless" death.

"[He] shouldn't have been hunting in the first place. Animals in the wild… are wild! They are living, thinking beings with instincts for survival," a statement by One Green Planet said.

Nigeria 'gay wedding' bust leads to charges

Prosecutors in the northern Nigeria state of Kaduna have charged a group of 53 people with conspiring to celebrate a gay wedding.

The accused, arrested last Saturday, have denied the allegations, with their lawyers saying they were illegally detained.
The court released the group on bail and the case was remanded to 8 May.
Homosexual acts are banned in socially conservative Nigeria and are punishable by up to 14 years in jail.
During a court appearance in Chediya-Zaria, the group pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy, unlawful assembly and belonging to an unlawful society.
Defence lawyer Yunusa Umar said most of the accused were students and had been illegally detained for more than 24 hours, the local Premium Times newspaper reported.
Gay rights campaigners who have been in touch with people involved in the case told the BBC's Stephanie Hegarty in Lagos the accused were arrested at a birthday party, not a wedding.
Nigeria has an influential Christian evangelical movement in the south and strong support for Islamic law in the north, both of which oppose homosexuality.
In January 2014, the Hisbah, or Islamic police, in Bauchi state raided several locations and arrested about a dozen men accused of sodomy acts.
Some of the men later appeared before a Sharia court for a bail hearing and an angry crowd gathered outside, demanding swift and severe punishment.
Stones were thrown at the court and the hearing was halted.
Police had to shoot in the air to disperse the mob and get the suspects back to prison safely, though there they are also vulnerable.
The ban on homosexuality, brought into effect in 2014, is used by some police officers and members of the public to legitimise abuses against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, according to Human Rights Watch (HRW).
"Extortion, mob violence, arbitrary arrest, torture in detention, and physical and sexual violence" are common against people suspected of homosexual activities, HRW said in a 2016 report.

Imprisoned Pakistani Christians offered release if they convert to Islam

Pakistani Christians imprisoned on terrorism charges for the lynching of two men after the 2015 church bombings in Lahore were allegedly told that if they renounced their faith and embraced Islam, their acquittal would be guaranteed.

According to Pakistan's Express Tribune , a prosecutor reportedly told 42 Christians who were arrested after two suspected terrorists were lynched following the bombing of two churches in the Youhanabad neighborhood of Lahore that if they convert to Islam, he "can guarantee their acquittal."

THE WEEK IN PICTURES

"Taking advantage of their presence at ATC-1 Lahore, Deputy District Public Prosecutor Syed Anees Shah gathers the accused outside the courtroom and asks them to embrace Islam," Joseph Franci, a rights activist helping to provide legal aid to the jailed Christians, told the Express. "He asks them if they embrace Islam, he can guarantee them their acquittal in this case."

Franci added that one of the imprisoned men, Ifran Masih, responded by saying that he would rather be hanged than embrace Islam.

One of the defense attorneys, Naseeb Anjum, told the Express that a similar offer was given to the jailed Christians about six months ago. However, the offer went ignored.

"The government should get rid of such elements that bring bad name to the state by such acts," Anjum said.

The prosecutor, Syed Anees Shah, initially told the Express that he did not ask the prisoners to embrace Islam but later conceded that he did give the prisoners a choice to convert after he was told that there was video recording of what he said.

Italy could be first Western country to offer paid menstrual leave

Italy could soon become the first Western country to offer paid ‘menstrual leave’ to women who experience painful periods.
The country’s parliament has been discussing the measure, which would mean companies have to offer three paid days off each month to women who get bad aches.

It’s not the first time this kind of legislation has been mooted, with countries including Japan and Indonesia already allowing women time off.

Experts have previously argued it makes sense as it would make workers feel happier and more comfortable.

While that’s the view of some in Italy, not everyone agrees, reports The Washington Post.

Marie Claire has praised the proposal, saying it proves the country is all about progress.

However, in women’s magazine Donna Moderna, Lorenza Pleuteri feared it might backfire on ladies.
She voiced concerns that kind of legislation might make some firms think twice before taking on women.

Melania Trump attacked for reciting 'The Lord's Prayer' at campaign rally

Leftists on social media tore into First Lady Melania Trump, mocking her accent and religion and branding her everything from a hostage to a whore – all for the secular offense of reciting “The Lord’s Prayer.”

Melania Trump began President Trump’s rally Saturday in Florida by delivering the prayer, which Christians – many of whom recite the prayer in church each week – believe was first said by Jesus Christ. The crowd at Orlando-Melbourne Airport received the prayer enthusiastically.

Left-leaning social media users were a different story, however.

Adele swept the top honors at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, but the night was shared with Beyoncé.

Adele swept the top honors at the 59th Annual Grammy Awards, but the night was shared with Beyoncé.

Adele went home with five total awards, including album of the year for "25."
Beyoncé won two, including best music video for "Formation" and best urban contemporary album for "Lemonade."
The two superstars each provided stellar performances.
Beyoncé, who recently announced she's expecting twins, reminded everyone why her nickname is Queen Bey with a powerful medley of "Love Drought" and "Sandcastles." The nine-minute set was a celebration of women and motherhood.
Beyoncé's mother of a Grammy performance
Adele opened the show with her hit "Hello." She later performed a slowed arrangement of George Michael's "Fastlove" in tribute to the singer, who died on Christmas Day.

After a few verses, Adele uttered an expletive and stopped.
"I'm sorry, I can't mess this up for him," Adele said.
She then beautifully powered through the song. The audience responded with a standing ovation.

Adele's evening got better when her single "Hello" won Grammy Awards for song and record of the year.
During her acceptance speech for the latter, she professed her admiration for fellow nominee, Beyoncé.
"I adore you and I want you to be my mommy," Adele quipped.
Moments later when she won album of the year, Adele insisted Beyoncé deserved it more.
"The artist of my life is Beyoncé, and this album to me, the 'Lemonade' album, was just so monumental," said a teary Adele to Beyoncé, who mouthed "I love you" from the audience.
Adele broke her trophy in half -- it's not clear whether that was an accident, though it appeared to be -- and backstage talked of how devastating Beyoncé loss was for her as a fan.
"I was completely rooting for her, I voted for her," Adele said. "I felt like it was her time to win. What the f*** does she have to do to win album of the year?"
David Bowie posthumously won five Grammy Awards for his final album, "Blackstar."
Chance the Rapper won the first award of the night for best new artist.
"Glory be to God," the Chicago native said before thanking his family and his hometown.
The rapper also won best rap album -- making history as the first artist with a streaming-only album to win a Grammy.
The politically-charged climate of the country was reflected throughout the ceremony.
A Tribe Called Quest teamed up with Anderson .Paak and Busta Rhymes for a set that included criticism of President Donald Trump.
"I just want to thank President Agent Orange for perpetuating all of the evil that you've been perpetuating throughout the United States," Rhymes said before launching into the song "We the People."
James Corden had a few political lines, but the Grammy host largely kept the focus of the night on the music and his self-deprecating brand of humor.

Breaking: Buhari to speak with Trump on phone 3:45 pm today

President Muhammadu Buhari will speak with the U.S President, Donald Trump today on phone by 3:45 pm local Nigerian time. President Buhari will be phoning the U.S President from his London base at 9:45 am Washington time, which is 3:45 pm in Nigeria and 2:45 pm in London.

In a series of tweets, the Personal Assistant to Buhari on New Media, Bashir Ahmad confirmed the news.
            Buhari to Phone Trump today

He said, President Buhari will also speak on phone with the president of South Africa, Jacob Zuma.

However, the reason for the proposed call is not yet disclosed but speculations are that it will not be far from being a congratulatory call to President Trump over his emergence as the 45th President of the United State of America from the Nigerian President.

Indications also suggest that President Buhari will, during the call, make Nigeria’s fight on global warming, fight against corruption and the various steps taken to salvage the country from recession.

Also, indications suggest that President Buhari may also seek U.S support in the fight against corruption, economic growth of Nigeria and other interests.

Recall that President Buhari has been in London on a working leave which initially was to last for ten days but was extended indefinitely after the ten days elapse so that results from the series of test President Buhari did while on vacation will be out, his letter to the National Assembly had read.

ABUJA – At a time Nigerians were anxiously waiting for his return to Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari has written to the National Assembly informing them of his desire to extend his leave.

He did not state the duration of the extension.

The letter which was written on Sunday stated that the extension was to enable the president complete and receive the results of a series of tests recommended by his doctors.

A statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina on Sunday stated that “The President had planned to return to Abuja this evening, but was advised to complete the test cycle before returning.”

2face backs out, cancels planned protest

Popular music star, Innocent Idibia a.k.a 2face, has backed out of the planned nationwide protest, announcing its cancellation 24 hours to the return and resumption of office by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The African Queen crooner announced the cancellation of the protest via his Instagram page, Official2baba Saturday evening.

In the video clip, 2face said, “Dear Nigerians, after due consultations, it has become clear that the #OneVoice Nigerian protest scheduled to hold in Lagos and Abuja on Monday the 6th of February is under serious threat of hijack by interests not aligned with our ideals. The point and intent am making is not worth the life of any Nigerian.”

“It is a fact motivated by the need to demand a better deal for the ordinary Nigerian.”

“I therefore announce the cancellation of the planned protest. We will share further information in due course… I appreciate the massive support and I am convinced that our voices have been heard.

“May God bless you all and may God bless Nigeria,” 2face concluded.

Recall that 2face had, a few weeks ago, called on Nigerians to join him in a nationwide protest against what he described as the  unfavourable policies implemented by President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration which have brought the Nigerian economy to its knees.  The protest which was initially slated to hold on the 5th of February 2017 was later shifted to Tomorrow 6th so that it would coincide with the resumption day of President Buhari who has been on a 10-day working leave in London.

Specifically, the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina had,  while playing host in an interview with Lagos Talk 91.3fm, described the planned protest as coming from disgruntled people still living under the defeat mode of the 2015 election.

He had said thus:“This is a country of about 180 million people. It is impossible for 180 million people to think the same way. Yoruba has a saying that if you all sleep and put your head in the same direction, then you are all foolish because you would be breathing in one another’s mouth and lungs.”

“Don’t forget the last election and how it went. Somebody scored 12.5 million votes, another scored about 15 million votes. There are some people who are still in that election mode. They have not gotten out of it and till today, they are still living and ‘rheumatisizing’ about the past.”

“What they don’t know is that that past is gone and gone forever. Majority of those calling for the protest are still in election mode. Majority of them are people that have resolved not to see anything good in this administration simply because the man they wanted lost at the polls.”

Similarly, Buhari’s spokesperson on electronic media, Mrs. Lauretta Onochie had also called the African Queen crooner to come to a national TV and explain his “beef” with Buhari instead of going on national newspapers.

According to her, “Nigerians would like 2Baba to explain the policies that he’s not happy with on National LIVE TV, as well as proffer alternative economic policies that would better serve all Nigerians. Not on newspapers that could have been written by anyone.”

“That way, Nigerians will know it’s entirely his idea, that he understands what he’s doing, and acting in the interest of all Nigerians. Otherwise, we might assume that the protest is for those who miss the heist that happened under You know who. Nigerians are waiting. Thank you Sir,” she had said.

In support of the two above, the Lagos state police commissioner, Owoseni had threatened to stop or even arrest the crooner on the pretext that the force had gotten an intelligence report that some hoodlums equally planned on hijacking the protest to cause mayhem.”

He had said: “Information reaching us revealed that some hoodlums are planning to hijack the peaceful protest and at such, we won’t allow it to hold in Lagos.” He said: “Information reaching us revealed that some hoodlums are planning to hijack the peaceful protest and at such, we won’t allow it to hold in Lagos.”

“We know that Tuface does not have the capacity to contain such a crowd and we will not fold our hands and watch while things go out of hand,” Owoseni said.

According to him, “no matter how good an intention is, hoodlums would always find a way to harass, rob and attack innocent members of the public who may wish to go about their lawful duties.”

However, despite the threat, the pop artiste had vowed to go ahead with the peaceful protest especially as many stakeholders had equally voiced support for the protest.

Fayose, Adegboruwa, Ex-millitants react Reacting to

Voicing his support for the protest and condemning the Lagos state Commissioner’s threat, the Ekiti state Governor, Ayodele Fayose had reminded Mr. Owoseni that “the duty of the police to secure Nigerians is mandatory, not optional. Therefore, if there is any intelligence report suggesting the possibility of criminals hijacking the process, it is the duty of the police to provide security cover for the protesters.”

Fayos had voiced his support for the planned protest by saying,  “Like I said before, I support the protest.” “Nigerians are hungry and angry, our currency is now above N500 to $1. If Nigerians want to show their anger, no one should prevent them. Nepotism, extra judicial killings, disobedience to court order and human rights abuses must stop.”

“The conscience is an open wound and the guilty is afraid. If the APC-led Federal Government is now acting as if the
protest is against it, it means the federal government has accepted to be guilty as charged.”

“Most importantly, the protest is said to be for and about good governance. So who is afraid of the protest? Who does the police represent or is representing in this issue?”

Reacting also, a lawyer and human rights activist, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa had equally voiced support for the protest saying, “this is not a rally by miscreants or thugs as to warrant the fears being expressed by the police commissioner. The statutory duty of the police is to offer us protection on Monday and help to maintain orderliness, throughout the period of the rally. So come rain or shine, we shall hold the rally on Monday.”

Similarly, the Niger Delta ex militants had also vowed to participate in the protest saying, “we the Niger Delta ex-agitators are fully in support of the 2face Idibia-led nationwide mass protest against economic hardship and severe hunger in the country. The federal government seemed to have no immediate measures to cushion plights of the suffering masses and we are ready for the protest.”

But Saturday’s volte face by the pop star was a thunderbolt to many, especially those who had been warming up to partake in the planned protest.  While some saw an angle of inducement from the APC-led federal government, others saw a case of outright “chickening-out.”

Some, who have commented their dissappointments in 2face’s u-turn in the comment section of the published video, despite his reasons for cancelling the protest, said he would never be regarded highly again in Nigeria for agitating their minds only to back out just hours before the show.

For instance, a commenter, WisdomWisdom1 said thus: ”how much were you paid to cancel? I know this is just game and drama to some back door round table discussions to name your price, get paid and come out with this fairy tale excuses of security…o boy!! you cant fool me.. I know the game and you played it well, using the masses. so when are you jetting out to Dubai or uk to offload the account?”

Another, @Jyde1305 said, “WTF!?! You get people fired up to protest and then you chicken out!!!” “This must be d stunt of ds millennium The guy knew, ab initio. He just put to test, d level of gullibility of Nigerians.”

GANI said,  “How did we take an Agatu man seriously in the first place? A “social crusader” shelves rally against hunger and failure of government in the “interests of masses.” The danger of hunger, herdsmen, inflation confronting the common man on a daily, hourly and real-time basis does not comparable to the danger of rally for liberation. I think I should just apologize to Blackface.”

And yet another person, Uchebravo said, “Na wa is terrible or is there anything discussed at the back. Why will u start what u know u can’t finish. God is watching. One day God will surely raise somebody that will champion the course of the lowly. No thanks.”

But the comments are not all against 2face as others saw reasons with him.

For instance, SylvesterDaniel wrote, “I know he made the announcement under duress. We will keep protesting here online until the world hear our voice. shame on Nigerian police. I am disappointed in Nigerian police. they are simply tools of mass suppression in the hand of cabal politicians.”

And more Nigerians are still stating their views on the cancellation of the protest by 2face.

The mesentery: A 'new' organ you didn't know you had

In case you've ever wondered what connects your intestine to your abdomen, there's a word -- and now, a single organ -- for that: the mesentery. But don't worry; you haven't grown a new organ. It's always been there, performing important functions that affect systems throughout the body, from cardiovascular to immunological.

Leonardo da Vinci depicted it as one contiguous organ, and it remained that way for centuries until 1885, when Sir Frederick Treves' findings presented the mesentery as fragmented amongst the small intestine, transverse colon and sigmoid colon.
The research of Dr. J. Calvin Coffey, foundation chair of surgery at the University of Limerick, is reclassifying this part of the digestive system as a contiguous organ. In a new study, Coffey has established the anatomy and structure of the mesentery, using images and compiling research to show that the organ's continuity can be seen only when it's exposed in a certain way.
The current findings resonate with those of Carl Toldt, who accurately described the presence of the mesentery in 1878. But his research was largely overlooked. At the time, Treves' findings supported the statements of Henry Gray, who mentioned multiple mesenteries in the 1858 first edition of his book "Gray's Anatomy," the go-to medical textbook for students around the world.
Coffey's research has already prompted the latest edition of "Gray's Anatomy" to refer to the mesentery as a continuous organ.

How the mesentery functions in your body. (A) Peritoneum, mesentery, fascia and intestine. (B) Mesentery, fascia and intestine. (C) Mesentery and intestine. (D) Mesentery.

What does it do?
Linking your gut to the rest of your body is an important task, and the mesentery performs it well.
Among its functions, it carries blood and lymphatic fluid between the intestine and the rest of the body. It also maintains the position of the intestine so that it's connected with the abdominal wall without being in direct contact.
That connection is key.
"Without a mesentery to keep the intestine connected, the intestine would have to attach directly to the body wall," Coffey said. "It is unlikely that it would be able to contract and relax along its entire length if it were directly in contact. It maintains the intestine in a particular conformation, 'hitched up,' so that when you stand up or walk about, it doesn't collapse into the pelvis and not function."
Although researchers know that the mesentery plays an important role in the intestinal, vascular, endocrine, cardiovascular and immunological systems, more research is needed to determine the extent of those roles.
But they do have evidence that the mesentery takes environmental signals from the intestine and orchestrates the body's response, Coffey said. One example is how bacteria are sampled in the lymph glands in the mesentery. In response, the glands then coordinate immune responses.
Why has it been misunderstood?
To look at the shape of the membrane, which Coffey calls remarkable, it's easy to see why the mesentery has been depicted differently. It has a spiral formation in the abdomen and is packaged along a spinal trajectory, starting in the upper abdomen and ending in the pelvis.
"In between, it fans out, like a Chinese fan, to span the length of the intestine from the upper small intestine to the end of the large bowel," Coffey said.
The latest anatomy and structure clarifications aid not only doctors, but medical students as well.
"For students, it greatly simplifies the matter of the mesentery," Coffey said. "This was traditionally regarded as a complex field. The current anatomic model is elegant and simple and will help students understand this structure. It will also provide them with a new perspective from which to view other organs in the abdomen. For example, we now know that the mesentery and intestine intersect along the entire length of the small and large intestine, whereas previously, this was though to occur in some regions only."
Improving surgery and treatment
More research will allow for better definition of the gut membrane's function, what happens when it functions abnormally and diseases that affect it. This also allows for mesenteric science to become its own field of medical study, like neurology.
Coffey hopes that creating a better understanding of the mesentery can help with diagnosing issues and less invasive ways of assessing them. Currently, its remote location in the body means the mesentery can be accessed only radiologically or surgically. This research lays the foundation for investigating possible prescriptions and how less-invasive endoscopic procedures during a colonscopy could map the mesentery.

Adopting a universal classification like this in the medical world has benefits that extend to standardizing surgical procedures, such as moving or cutting into the intestine. The mesentery extends from the duodenum, or first part of the small intestine immediately beyond the stomach, all the way to the rectum, the final section of the large intestine.
Because of this, it can factor into diseases such as Crohn's, colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease or cardiovascular disease and major health concerns like diabetes, obesity and metabolic syndrome. The more doctors know about the exact function of the mesentery, the more measures they can take to investigate the part it plays.
"For doctors, it provides us with an opportunity to refresh our approach to many diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease and others," Coffey said. "This could help in identifying the mechanisms underlying these conditions and help us in unraveling their cause and how they develop."

Report: Afghan Migrants Arrested in Facebook Live Rape Case

Three men, including two migrants from Afghanistan, have been arrested over the alleged three-hour gang rape of a woman in Uppsala, Sweden, that was broadcast on Facebook Live.

Trace Gallagher reported on "The First 100 Days" that police received several calls Sunday morning from people who claimed to be watching a Facebook Live stream of two men sexually assaulting a woman who appeared to be unconscious or intoxicated.

When police arrived, they found three men, including two, aged 18 and 20, who are both from Afghanistan, and a third man, aged, 24, who is a Swedish citizen, according to a Swedish newspaper.
The nationalities of the accused are controversial because Sweden, like Germany and other European countries, is having a fierce debate over immigrants and refugees," Gallagher reported.

He noted that this is the second alleged rape involving Afghan immigrants in Sweden in three months.

Gallagher reported that this Facebook Live case may be difficult to prosecute if there are no recordings of the live stream.

Okorocha inaugurates Imo Air, says Imo not affected by recession

A maiden flight of Imo Air owned by the Imo State Government, Tuesday, landed at the Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport Owerri with the first set of passengers, and with the State governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, members of the State Executive Council and thousands of Imo people at the airport to celebrate the feat.

The 140-Seater plane with Imo Air written boldly on the body landed at the Sam Mbakwe Cargo Airport at exactly 11.42 pm, and is being operated for the State by DANA Airline because according to the governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha the State has not got the license to operate full – blown airline.
In his speech at the Airport to herald the arrival of the Maiden Imo Air, Governor Rochas Okorocha said it has been his dream and sincere desire to position Imo State on the fast lane of development, prosperity and growth, adding that he won’t rest on his oars until that dream is realized.

Governor Okorocha also said that Imo is not affected by the much-talked about recession in the Country because some people might wonder why the State should dabble into Airline business in time of recession explaining that the State has cleared arrears of Pension and has paid Salaries upto December 2016, and is about to commence the payment of January Salary.

His words, “this is a happy moment in the State. The aim of going into the Air business is because I want to drive traffic to Imo State as Imo is genuinely becoming the fastest developing City outside Abuja and Lagos. For this, there is need for more airlines to cushion the effects of high traffic coming to the State”.

The governor continued “Imo government does not have an operating air license. So we needed to partner with a good and qualified airline operator. Hence, the choice of DANA Air because of its proven track record and sincerity of purpose. The Imo Air will be operated by DANA and we have a contract of ten years with them. We have five of this aircraft and the first one has just landed and four other ones will start operation in few weeks time”.

The governor explained, “The International Cargo Airport will soon kick-start to supplement the efforts of Imo Air. In our pursuit of making Imo better, Imo International Cargo Airport will soon commence operations. Work is going on smoothly and by April God’s willing the fastest International Cargo Plane will arrive Imo State. This, we believe will help drive up commercial activities in the State. Imo is a hub for business and there is no better place to invest now in Nigeria than Imo State as inspite of the recession the State is still flourishing and progressing because of its visionary leadership”.

He informed that Imo Air will have 10% discount to all Imo indigenes flying the Plane and the operation will equally employ over 30% of Imo sons and daughters to help in the management of the Imo Air”.

The DANA AIR Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Mbanuzuo Obi said, “The partnership between DANA and the good people of Imo State will create employment and better working relationship for the State. Imo AIR is in safe hands and the choice of DANA AIR for the partnership is an excellent choice as DANA AIR is registered with INTERATIONAL AIR TRANSPORT ASSOCIATION operations and security treasuring”.

He added that DANA AIR has the best Customer Service Awards for 3 years running and has also been known to operate one of the top most operational brands in Nigeria. He commended Okorocha for his vision and passion for excellence.

List of Trump's executive orders

Since taking office, President Trump has looked to fulfill some of his campaign promises by using executive orders. Here are the orders he has signed so far:

•An order that directs federal agencies to ease the “regulatory burdens” of ObamaCare. It orders agencies to “waive, defer, grant exemptions from, or delay the implementation of any provision or requirement” of ObamaCare that imposes a “fiscal burden on any State or a cost, fee, tax, penalty, or regulatory burden on individuals, families, healthcare providers, health insurers, patients, recipients of healthcare services, purchasers of health insurance, or makers of medical devices, products, or medications.”

•An order imposing a hiring freeze for some federal government workers as a way to shrink the size of government. This excludes the military, as Trump noted at the signing.

•He signed a notice that the U.S. will begin withdrawing from the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal. Trump called the order "a great thing for the American worker."

•An order to reinstate the so-called "Mexico City Policy" – a ban on federal funds to international groups that perform abortions or lobby to legalize or promote abortion. The policy was instituted in 1984 by President Reagan, but has gone into and out of effect depending on the party in power in the White House.

Pope Francis sends best wishes to President Trump

The Pope extended the new President good wishes and hoped that his decisions would be guided by the values that have helped shape the country.
Upon your inauguration as the forty-fifth President of the United States of America,
I offer you my cordial good wishes and the assurance of my prayers that Almighty
God will grant you wisdom and strength in the exercise of your high office. With these sentiments, I ask the Lord to grant you and your family, and all the beloved American people, his blessings of peace, concord and every material and spiritual prosperity.

Twinkas, another ponzi scheme emerges to replace MMM

Twinkas, another Ponzi scheme similar to the troubled MMM, has started trending with memberships in different categories.

According to the scheme, www.twinkas.com, Twinkas said it was created “to promote the greatest good, with a particular emphasis on helping man and the environment’’.

It said that it had successfully revised all technical and logical issues about the front-end and has provided mobile numbers to help facilitate the money exchange process.

“We are gradually restoring our CRM Modules (Live Chat, Ticket, Mobile Calls) to enable us get in touch with you regularly.

“We have switched to STRICT MODE. Meaning zero tolerance. Hence, we will not entertain any form of uncanny behaviour from sponsors/downlines.’’

Twinkas
Twinkas has rolled out some conditions, including the warning that prospective investors must keep their mobile phones open most of the times and be online in order to succeed.

“ If a sponsors mobile is switched off or not answering calls for about 6 Hours, Twinkas will have that account blocked.

“ If a sponsor fails to activate his/her referral after receiving payment, Twinkas will have that account and subsequent accounts connected to your bank and mobile number blocked.

“ You are advised to have an online banking Application on your mobile phone to help facilitate the process. Mobile numbers will be displayed on your dashboard. Please save them and do not receive any call from other lines claiming to have emanated from Twinkas.’’

It warned investors against pestering any of the numbers for trivial Issues.

“These numbers should be called only in the cases of emergency, hacked accounts or other serious Twinkas related issues.

“Use the “Live Support” and the Ticketing System (Still in View) for only serious Twinkas Issues also. We know those working hard for Twinkas, your reward will be a surprise!.’’

According to the website, Twinkas’ Classic now has 198,985 Professionals with 117,290; Twinkas Premium has 117,147 members; the Ultimate with 170,322 members; has zero members under the Vetreran category.

Any amount invested in each of the categories would attract double the amount after one month maturity.

Under Classic, members are expected to invest N5,000 with V10,000 return Investment; and subscribers on the Professional platform would invest N10,000 and with N20,000 Return.

Under the Premium level of N20,000 investment, investors would get N40,000;
Ultimate with contribution of N50,000 attracts N100,000 return.

The Veteran scheme is N100,000 investment with a return of N200,000 but no one has yet to invest on the platform.

Concerned citizens and financial institutions had warned against participation in these Ponzi schemes because they are fraud.

Many Nigerians were warned against investing in MMM few months before it became distress and had yet to fully pick up.

Nigerians have been warned by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) not to deposit money in any institution that is not insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC).

The bank through its acting Director of Corporate Communications, Mr. Isaac Okoroafor, warned especially on the trending MMM Nigeria community.

Okoroafor said: “At times like this when the economy has suffered some decline, Nigerians should be very careful with those they deal with. Any institution that is not licensed by the CBN to accept deposits should not be given money to keep under any guise.

“We can vouch for the banking system. The deposit money banks are the only licensed institutions to take deposits. If you need to deposit money in any form, go to any of the deposit money banks and put your money, you can buy fixed income instruments or invest in stocks.

“These people always come with very interesting propositions. These are fraudsters who are just out there to collect people’s money and run away as soon as they hit their target. There is no insurance because the NDIC does not even protect them against such risks when they occur”.
He said there is a new Ponzi scheme called ‘MMM’ that is spreading like wildfire and a lot of young school leavers have already signed on to this scheme, which the promoters are marketing as a “mutual fund””

“MMM offers its participants 30 per cent growth rate per month for each and every donation they make into the system… MMM belongs to the community, its sustainability depends on the activities of the people that make up the MMM Nigeria community, that is me and you and other MMM Nigeria participants,”

Typically, what promoters of such pyramid scheme do is that they offer rates far beyond what is obtainable in commercial banks. This would always attract a lot of people who would always rush in to stake their funds.

But, those who join the scheme late would always be the ones to lose their shirts as they would have been convinced by those that joined earlier to invest huge amounts of money.

READ. Transcript: Donald Trump inauguration speech in full

Here is Donald Trump's inauguration speech in full:

"Chief Justice Roberts, President Carter, President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama, fellow Americans, and people of the world: thank you.

We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and to restore its promise for all of our people.
Together, we will determine the course of America and the world for years to come.

We will face challenges. We will confront hardships. But we will get the job done.
Every four years, we gather on these steps to carry out the orderly and peaceful transfer of power, and we are grateful to President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama for their gracious aid throughout this transition. They have been magnificent. Thank you.

Today's ceremony, however, has very special meaning. Because today we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another, or from one party to another - but we are transferring power from Washington, DC and giving it back to you, the American people.

For too long, a small group in our nation's capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have borne the cost.

Washington flourished - but the people did not share in its wealth.

Politicians prospered - but the jobs left, and the factories closed.

The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country.

Their victories have not been your victories; their triumphs have not been your triumphs; and while they celebrated in our nation's capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land.

That all changes - starting right here, and right now, because this moment is your moment: it belongs to you.

It belongs to everyone gathered here today and everyone watching all across America.

This is your day. This is your celebration.

And this, the United States of America, is your country.
What truly matters is not which party controls our government, but whether our government is controlled by the people.

January 20th, 2017 will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again.

The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer.

Everyone is listening to you now.

You came by the tens of millions to become part of a historic movement the likes of which the world has never seen before.
At the centre of this movement is a crucial conviction: that a nation exists to serve its citizens.

Americans want great schools for their children, safe neighborhoods for their families, and good jobs for themselves.

These are the just and reasonable demands of a righteous public.

But for too many of our citizens, a different reality exists: Mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities; rusted-out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation; an education system, flush with cash, but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of knowledge; and the crime and gangs and drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealised potential.

This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.

We are one nation - and their pain is our pain. Their dreams are our dreams; and their success will be our success. We share one heart, one home, and one glorious destiny.

The oath of office I take today is an oath of allegiance to all Americans.
For many decades, we've enriched foreign industry at the expense of American industry;

Subsidised the armies of other countries while allowing for the very sad depletion of our military;

We've defended other nation's borders while refusing to defend our own;

And spent trillions and trillions of dollars overseas while America's infrastructure has fallen into disrepair and decay.

We've made other countries rich while the wealth, strength, and confidence of our country has disappeared over the horizon.

One by one, the factories shuttered and left our shores, with not even a thought about the millions upon millions of American workers left behind.

The wealth of our middle class has been ripped from their homes and then redistributed across the entire world.

But that is the past. And now we are looking only to the future.

We assembled here today are issuing a new decree to be heard in every city, in every foreign capital, and in every hall of power.

From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land.

From this moment on, it's going to be only America First. America First.

Every decision on trade, on taxes, on immigration, on foreign affairs, will be made to benefit American workers and American families.

We must protect our borders from the ravages of other countries making our products, stealing our companies, and destroying our jobs. Protection will lead to great prosperity and strength.

I will fight for you with every breath in my body - and I will never, ever let you down.
America will start winning again, winning like never before.

We will bring back our jobs. We will bring back our borders. We will bring back our wealth. And we will bring back our dreams.
We will build new roads, and highways, and bridges, and airports, and tunnels, and railways all across our wonderful nation.

We will get our people off of welfare and back to work - rebuilding our country with American hands and American labor.

We will follow two simple rules: Buy American and Hire American.

We will seek friendship and goodwill with the nations of the world - but we do so with the understanding that it is the right of all nations to put their own interests first.

We do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone, but rather to let it shine as an example for everyone to follow.

We will reinforce old alliances and form new ones - and unite the civilised world against radical Islamic terrorism, which we will eradicate completely from the face of the Earth.

At the bedrock of our politics will be a total allegiance to the United States of America, and through our loyalty to our country, we will rediscover our loyalty to each other.

When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice.

The Bible tells us, "how good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity."

We will reinforce old alliances and form new ones - and unite the civilised world against radical Islamic terrorism, which we will eradicate completely from the face of the Earth.

President Donald Trump
We must speak our minds openly, debate our disagreements honestly, but always pursue solidarity.

When America is united, America is totally unstoppable.

There should be no fear - we are protected, and we will always be protected.

We will be protected by the great men and women of our military and law enforcement and, most importantly, we will be protected by God.

Finally, we must think big and dream even bigger.

In America, we understand that a nation is only living as long as it is striving.

We will no longer accept politicians who are all talk and no action - constantly complaining but never doing anything about it.

The time for empty talk is over.

Now arrives the hour of action.

Do not let anyone tell you it cannot be done. No challenge can match the heart and fight and spirit of America.
We will not fail. Our country will thrive and prosper again.

We stand at the birth of a new millennium, ready to unlock the mysteries of space, to free the Earth from the miseries of disease, and to harness the energies, industries and technologies of tomorrow.

A new national pride will stir our souls, lift our sights, and heal our divisions.

It is time to remember that old wisdom our soldiers will never forget: that whether we are black or brown or white, we all bleed the same red blood of patriots, we all enjoy the same glorious freedoms, and we all salute the same great American flag.
And whether a child is born in the urban sprawl of Detroit or the windswept plains of Nebraska, they look up at the same night sky, they fill their heart with the same dreams, and they are infused with the breath of life by the same almighty creator.

So to all Americans, in every city near and far, small and large, from mountain to mountain, and from ocean to ocean, hear these words:

You will never be ignored again.

Your voice, your hopes, and your dreams, will define our American destiny. And your courage and goodness and love will forever guide us along the way.

Together, We will make America strong again.

We will make America wealthy again.

We will make America proud again.

We will make America safe again.

And, yes, together, we will make America great again. Thank you, God bless you, and God bless America."

Breaking: Donald Trump sworn in as 45th president of United States of America

Donald Trump became the 45th president of United States on Friday, ushering in a new political era that is cheered and feared in equal measure.

The 70-year-old Republican billionaire placed his left hand on a bible used by Abraham Lincoln and recited the 35-word oath spoken since George Washington, and then launched into a much-anticipated inaugural address.

“We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and restore its promise for all of our people,” Trump told a crowd of hundreds of thousands massed on the National Mall.
Together we will determine the course of America, and the world, for many, many years to come,” he said.

“From this day forward, it’s going to be only America first.”

Trump’s inauguration caps the improbable rise to power of the Manhattan real estate mogul, who had never before held elected office, served in the government or the armed forces.

A crowd of hundreds of thousands looked on, including outgoing president Barack Obama and Trump’s defeated election opponent Hillary Clinton — who narrowly missed out on becoming America’s first female president.

“I’ve been waiting for this for a long time,” said Thomas Mendenhall, 68, a retired banker from Missouri. “We just want change.”

– Meteoric political rise –

When Trump descended the escalators of his glitzy New York tower in June 2015, his run for office was dismissed and even mocked.

His staff, many shunned by friends for supporting a man who has been labeled a racist and bigot by his critics, will become power players in the White House.

In the primaries, Trump dominated a crowded Republican presidential field with smash-mouth rhetoric and star power. He rode that same wave of anti-elite sentiment to victory over Clinton in the November election.

For Trump’s critics, there was disbelief that a man who 19 months ago hosted “The Apprentice” is now leader of the free world.

A short distance from the steps of the Capitol, where Trump was sworn in, police fired gas to disperse protesters. Stones were thrown and windows broken.

A 27-year-old financial worker from Tampa Bay in Florida, who did not want to give his name for fear of retaliation by his employer, said Trump’s election victory had left him fearful.

“There is nothing to hope for except for grassroots efforts to oppose him,” he said. A bigger anti-Trump rally is planned for Saturday.

– Time-honored traditions –

At 70 years of age, Trump is the oldest man ever to begin work in the Oval Office.

He has vowed to tear up Obama’s policies and re-examine decades-old alliances with Europe and in Asia.

Beginning Friday, his team plans a rolling series of daily executive orders to roll back Obama’s agenda.

But he enters office with a 37 percent approval rating, the lowest on record, according to a CBS News poll.

His inauguration was notably more sparsely attended than that of Obama in 2009 and 2013.

Many will look to Trump’s inaugural speech for efforts to unify a country divided by politics — and increasingly, by culture.

The most noted inaugural addresses had sought to lift Americans’ gaze up from the rancor and troubles of the day toward the horizon and a better tomorrow.

Inaugural addresses — from Lincoln to John F. Kennedy — echo across American history. Phrases like “malice towards none” and “ask not what your country can do for you” have been carved into the vernacular.

Trump aides are promising an address that is at once short — at around 20 minutes — and philosophical.

Earlier in the day, Trump had traced the steps of many presidents past, attending a prayer service at St. John’s Church before heading to the White House, where he was greeted warmly by Obama.

“Mr President-elect, how are you?” Obama asked his successor, after having deposited a letter in the Resolute desk and left the Oval Office for the last time.

After his speech, Trump will attend a luncheon inside the Capitol, before heading back to the White House to begin the business of governing.
